Exercise 5 Movie and shot list

Throughout this video we used various amount of shots and visual effects such as lighting and color to change the mood of the scene and film as a whole. To get that eerie look we decide to use a lot of dark lighting with a lot of shadows to make the audience uncomfortable. The shot throughout this short are very important for the film each shot used adds tension to the scene. By using a lot of close ups and medium shots help use active this type of feel. Another important element that we tried to active visually is the use of night indoor lighting. Since the entire film was made at night we used night indoor lighting to give off shadows and used a lot of interior lighting.

Exercise 3 writing part 2

EXT. HIGH SCHOOL.DAY

The leaves are blowing throughout the air as the kids exit the school and exhausted from the long day of work. We then see two KIDS. JOHN and JIM walk out together.

                                             JOHN
Hey bro did you write down the math homework?

Jim looks at him with confusion.

                                              JIM
                                    (confused)
I don't think we had math homework today.

The leaves continue to fall all around them. John begins to become angry.

                                             JOHN
                                        (Angry)
Yes we did how do you forget to write down the homework.

                                           JIM
I don't understand why you always have to count on me to do it.
                              (pause)
Why don't you just do it yourself.

The sky begins to get dark and gray. Suddenly it begins to rain. Jim and John start to walk into the rain so that they can get home.

EXT.BACKSTREETS.DAY
The rain continues to fall and begins to intensify. The two brothers begin to walk faster.

                                JOHN
Hey man I'm sorry I flipped on you back there.
                (pause)
Your right I should not leave everything up to you.

                                   JIM
Ahh Don't worry about it I was only messing with you before.
I got the homework written down.

They both look at each other and laugh and walk into their house as the rain begins to clear. The sun finally comes out from behind the gray looking clouds. The weather instantly becomes beautiful almost spring like.

                                                                                                                  THE END

Exercise 3 Part 1

Msgr. Farrell Highschool Taken By Jason Leavy (Summer 2011)

A place that shows a lot of visual when observing is Msgr. Farrell High school

located on Staten Island. When I visited my old school I finally just sat down and

looked at the building and surroundings and noticed that there were a lot of vibrant

colors, the shading of the brick, the bright saturation of the autumn leaves, and how

the sunlight reflected onto the building itself creating an outdoor illumination which

means the sky and the walls of the building are light. All recessed areas like the doors

and especially the windows, are in the shade which makes that region dark.

When looking around the campus of the school I've noticed a lot of different

colors. for example the orange/ red of the leaves, the bright green turf coming from

the football field and how the light from the sky brought upon shadows.  I arrived at

the school when the kids were exiting the building so there were a lot of laughing,

and fun conversations going. In some cases I felt a sense of relief from the students

because school was over.

This school was very important to me because it made me a better man and

helped me active my goal at the time, which was to get into a great college. It was

and still is considered to be my second home because the teachers help there students so

that they can succeed in life. Whenever i come back to visit it feels like i never left. This

places gave me great memories that I will cherish for a life time.

Chapter 6 Review Presentations

In this scene from National Security (2003) we witness the way a movie or scene is open regularly with is the use of and establishing shot which gives the audiences the location of the scene. Next we see a medium shot which gives viewers who is in the scene. Finally their are the close up shot which are usually used to show expressions.

In this scene from the film Heat (1995) it uses a very strange way of starting a certain scene. The director uses a series of close ups to start the scene rather then an establishing shot. By doing this I does not give the audience a clear view of where the characters are in regards to setting. But it gives the scene an element of suspense because it uses many close up shots to show the audience that their is tension.

Both of these scene show the two different ways in which a scene is opened and how that scene is introduced to the audience. I feel that any scene should be opened with an establishing shot because it gives the audience a better understanding of what is happening.

Hard Days Night Response

A picture taken from Life Magazine (1963)

A movie still from the film A Hard Days Night (1964)

In Both of these photo's a viewer can see the comparison that exist between the Life magazine shot of the Beatles and the movie still. In both photos you can see that they are always having fun in what they are doing. Also the time that both of these photo were taking we almost around the same time because as you can see the age of The Beatles is identical.  The film was excellent because it really took the audience inside the life of The Beatles. By looking at these photo these really capture the fun in both their music and throughout their life.
